There is no doubt that there is something Exciting about advent calendars. To me, they were the first example of a little behavior. 8 year old me has gone through a tough day and come home and opened the cardboard door to eat some powdered chocolate. As an adult, spending just a moment each day with a special gift or keepsake can help you stop feeling overwhelmed by pruning trees and wrapping gifts — so you can start enjoying the ride.

Advent calendars are nicer now than they were when I was a kid, and the ingredients are no longer limited to novelty Santa-shaped chocolates. I painstakingly tore apart several cardboard doors to get to the bottom of the best advent calendar. My favorites are below. Even if you start looking at your calendar after December 1st, don't worry; Many advent calendars are only 12 days long. Also, who needs rules? Double the treats if you start late!

Updated November 27th: We've added new advent calendars for makeup, moonshine, men, and more.
