At least 40 people are nursing critical injuries following a road accident that occurred in the Mwisho wa Lami area in Mau Narok, Nakuru County.
The accident happened on Wednesday, December 25, when two lorries travelling in opposite directions were involved in a head-on collision, injuring several people, including pedestrians.
While confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross Society announced that it had dispatched a rescue team to assist in retrieving those trapped in the wreckage.
Shortly afterwards, a multi-agency team comprising the National Police Service (NPS), the Nakuru County Government Ambulance Service, and Emergency Kenya Services arrived.

“A road traffic incident involving two lorries has occurred at Mau Narok, Mwisho wa Lami. Response teams, including the Kenya Police, Red Cross Action Teams, County Government Ambulance and EMS Kenya, are on-site responding,” the Kenya Red Cross confirmed.
“40 injured people have been evacuated to Nakuru Provincial Hospital, with some reported to be in critical condition. The scene has now been cleared.”
The accident which occurred at around 9 pm, resulted in a huge traffic snarl-up along the main highway forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
Yesterday’s accident comes two days after seven people succumbed after they were involved in a road accident at the Maltauro stretch on the Narok-Nairobi highway.
The accident that took place on Monday, December 23, happened after six vehicles and a motorcycle crashed into each other, killing several people on the spot.
The accident occurred when a trailer travelling from Narok towards Mai Mahiu suffered a tyre burst and lost control, ramming into a Toyota Premio, an Ena Coach bus and a matatu. Shortly after, a second trailer, also travelling from Narok rammed into other vehicles stalled at the same scene.
“The accident occurred when a trailer being driven from Narok town towards Mai Mahiu area got a tyre burst and lost control,” confirmed Narok County Commander John Momanyi.
Motorists approaching the accident scene were advised to drive with caution as the emergency response teams including the Kenya Red Cross conducted first aid on those injured.
