Four killed in a fatal accident in Kisumu – Kenya News Agency

Four people died while scores of others sustained serious injuries after they were involved in a fatal accident at Awasi’s Pala area.

Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Peter Maina confirmed the incident saying the driver of the ill-fated vehicle, two male passengers, and a woman died on the spot when the private Nissan van plying from Kericho to Kisumu was involved in a crash.

He preliminary observation at the scene of the accident indicated that the driver lost control of the speeding car, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into a culvert ditch

“The only survivor, identified as Denise Otieno, 29, sustained a broken left arm and is undergoing treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital,” Maina said.

He said the deceased were taken to Othoo private funeral home for a postmortem as police commenced investigations into the actual cause of the fatal accident

Maina however observed that most accidents occurring this festive season were due to factors such as driver fatigue, careless driving, speeding, or a non-serviced vehicle as families covered long distances to rural homes.

“Some of the accident are attributed to human error caused by fatigue or unfamiliarity with new routes, and calls for caution and traffic rules during festive season,” Maina cautioned.
