Uhuru's Message to Matiang'i's Daughter During Lavish Wedding in Nairobi

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was the chief guest at the wedding ceremony of former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s daughter and his lover which took place on Friday, December 27.

Matiang’i, who served in Uhuru’s administration and was the most powerful CS in government for a long period, witnessed his daughter Wendy Bochere Okongo and Franklin Kashindi tie the knot at a lavish ceremony in Nairobi.

In a statement, the former President’s press team revealed that Uhuru wished the newlyweds well in his address while noting, “Marriage is a wonderful journey that needs love, trust, and respect from both partners.  Wendy and Franklin, as you begin this new part of your lives, I hope your home is full of peace and joy, and may your relationship be an example for others.”

The former President also reflected on the significance of family in strengthening societal bonds, adding, “Today’s celebration reminds us of the importance of togetherness and the values that bind us as a community.”

The event included colorful performances that highlighted the couple’s journey together. According to the press team, it was not just a celebration of love but also of the strong connections that bring families, communities, and the country closer.

Among the notable attendees were former Vice President and Azimio la Umoja co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, veteran politician Sam Ongeri, Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo, former ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, and former Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, among others.

Uhuru’s presence at his former minister’s wedding comes at a time when the political arena is bustling with activity with all eyes on the 2027 General Election.

Matiang’i himself announced his intention to vie for the Presidency with his party, the United Progressive Alliance, endorsing him as their preferred presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, Uhuru recently made his way back into the limelight after meeting with his successor William Ruto in what many political observers pointed towards a political alliance. This was amidst Ruto’s fallout with his deputy Rigathi Gachagua who was subsequently impeached.

True to the observers, Uhuru and Ruto joined hands with Ruto nominating leaders allied to Uhuru as CSs in a recent Cabinet reshuffle. In what Ruto termed as a bid to realign ministries for optimal performance and improved service delivery, Ruto nominated Mutahi Kagwe as the new Agriculture CS, Lee Kinyanjui as the Investment, Trade and Industry CS, and William Kabogo as the Information, Communication and Digital Economy CS.

This came after Ruto joined hands with Raila in the aftermath of the June-August Gen Z protests forming a broad-based government that included leaders allied to the former Prime Minister. Ruto termed it as a ‘broad-based government’ aimed at uniting the needs and interests of Kenyans.

On the other hand, Kalonzo Musyoka also moved to consolidate his presidential aspirations assuming the title of ‘Leader of The People’s Opposition’ leading the cause of keeping the government in check.

Gachagua, who was effectively sidelined from government intimated at forming a coalition with Kalonzo in a recent rally in Ukambani terming as a ‘debt owed by the GEMA community to the Akambas.’

The recent movements in the political playing field promise a great viewing in 2025 as Kenya braces for a bruising run-up to the 2027 polls.
