The bodies of two young Kenyans were discovered on Saturday, January 4, sparking fears over the rising trend of forced disappearances. The two were discovered in Kiambu and Nairobi counties.
In Kiambu, residents discovered the naked body of a young man by the roadside at Kawaida near Banana and called for authorities.
The body was found wrapped in a shawl, with his clothes placed a few metres away from his naked body.
According to human rights group Vocal Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid, the family of the deceased positively identified him as John Muchiri Muthoni, aged 27.

Khalid revealed that the family lost contact with Muchiri after he disappeared less than 24 hours ago on Friday evening, January 3, at around 3pm.
The activist revealed that the family received the devastating news of their kin’s discovery after his girlfriend told them to had received a call from unknown persons telling him to go get the body of her lover.
”We are working with the family and authorities in organising a postmortem for the body found by the roadside in Kawaida. The body has been moved to Kihara Sub-County Hospital Mortuary,” Khalid stated.
”The deceased has been identified as John Muchiri Muthoni, aged 27. He was last seen on Friday, 3rd January 2025, at around 3 PM. His girlfriend reportedly received a call from an unknown number, directing her to find his body by the roadside,” he added.
In another shocking incident, the body of 26-year-old Ian Singoe, who has been missing for a while, was discovered in Mwiki, Nairobi.
According to a friend who was allowed to share the news by the family of the late Singoe, the young man was last seen on December 31 in Mwiki, Kasarani.
”With permission from the family, I wish to communicate that the body of Ian Singoe has been found and positively identified. Plans are underway to transfer the body to the morgue as police investigations begin,” the close family friend shared.
