KHRC Accuses Ruto of Ethnic Exclusivity & Gender Discrimination in Recent Cabinet Appointments

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development Justin Muturi has condemned the government for acting casually about the ongoing abductions in the country and assuming their occurrences.

Speaking on Friday, the CS challenged the government to own up to its efficiencies in all sectors, including the cases of abductions.

“There can never be a situation where the government says it does not know what is happening. We must own up to our efficiency where they have been pointed out or where they have occurred,” the CS said.

Pointing out the recent cases of abductions where six youths went missing during the Christmas holiday and are yet to be found, Muturi condemned the government for alleging that it does not know what is happening and who is behind it.

“We cannot be here and talk about young souls that have been taken away all over and allege we do not know who has taken them. We cannot say we don’t know. We are the government,” the CS continued.

Ever since the onset of the abductions, there have been cases of finger-pointing and blaming among leaders and relevant stakeholders.

While President William Ruto promises Kenyans that his government will work to ensure the cases stop, neither the Director of Criminal Investigations, the Inspector General, the Interior Ministry, the National Police, nor the government itself have unearthed who is behind the abductions.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s mother on Friday, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah blamed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for being behind the abductions.

“Gachagua was the orchestrator of abductions so that he could blame President Ruto,” Ichung’wah said while condemning Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya for calling out the government over the abductions.

In a quick rejoinder, Gachagua slammed the accusations by Ichung’wah stating that the government is finding it hard to contain his sincerity on key issues.

”The problem with Kenya is the issue of constant lies, and that is probably why I was axed from the government because I stood for the truth,” the former DP asserted.

On December 30, 2024, the High Court ordered the immediate release of the six individuals believed to have been abducted by state agents, orders that are yet to be actualised.
