Microsoft is Reverting a Model Upgrade Its AI-powered Bing Image Creator, reports techcrunchThe rollback came after weeks of complaints from users that the tool was not working properly after Microsoft “upgraded” the DALL-E 3 model to a new version on December 18.

Microsoft declined to comment on its decision to bring things back or to offer specials on what might be causing the difference between user expectations and its output.

Today, Jordi Ribas, Microsoft's head of search, Tweeted They may be able to reproduce “some of the reported issues” and are reverting to an older version of the DALL-E model for now, although this may take a few weeks to complete.

As soon as Ribas posted about the change in December, there were complaints that Bing Image Creator was creating less detailed results or those images did not accurately reflect their signalsIn his initial answers, Ribas said that the model's output quality “should be, on average, a little better” than before.

All of these things are subjective, and I can't claim to think any of these look better than any other. If anything, it seems like a sign that Microsoft doesn't just have to deal with complaints about people upset by bugs or feature changes — now it has to deal with AI art critics comparing the output of the machine they're using. Let's imagine that it should be made. Perhaps they should ask the artists on whose work the generators were trained for tips on how to manage client expectations?
