Full Interview: GOP Vice Presidential Candidate Senator JD Vance

Washington – J.D. Vance has officially resigned from his Senate seat as he prepares to run for Vice President later this month.

Vance, who completed two years of his six-year Senate term, informed Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine of his plans in a resignation letter Thursday, saying his resignation would be effective at midnight.

Vance wrote, “As I prepare to assume my duties as Vice President of the United States, I want to express that it has been a tremendous honor and privilege to serve the people of Ohio in the Senate over the past two years. Used to be.”

DeWine, a Republican, will appoint Vance's replacement. His successor will fill the seat until a special election is held in 2026. The winner of the special election will serve the remaining two years of Vance's term.

Vance said in a statement announcing his resignation, “When I was elected to this office, I promised that I would never forget where I came from, and I have made sure to live up to that every day. I will stick to my promise.”

He said, in the next four years he will do everything possible to help newly elected President Donald Trump implement his agenda.

“Together, we will build America stronger, safer and more prosperous than ever before,” he said.

Congress certified The victory for Trump and Vance in Monday's proceedings was a sharp contrast to four years ago, when a violent mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and disrupted proceedings. Trump and Vance will take the oath of office on January 20.
