A texas Man accused of stalking WNBA star Caitlin Clark After allegedly sending her several threats and sexually explicit messages on social media.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced in a news release Monday that Michael Lewis, 55, was arrested and charged Sunday in Indianapolis following an investigation.
According to court documents, law enforcement discovered that Lewis was sending messages to the Indiana Fever player on X that contained multiple threatening and sexually explicit messages.
According to Axe, Lewis said in a message to Clark, “@CatlinClark22 is driving around your house 3 times a day..but don't refer to the law yet, tell the public to drive by Gainbridge..aka Catlins Fieldhouse Allowed.” Court documents.
Another message said, “I'm getting a ticket. I'm sitting behind the bench.”
Authorities discovered that Lewis had traveled to Indianapolis and was staying at a hotel in the city. Law enforcement visited Lewis on Wednesday where he admitted it was “a fictitious relationship.” Despite the encounter with law enforcement, the messages continued.
“It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases, which is why many women don't do it,” Mears said in the news release. “By doing so, the victim is setting an example for all women who deserve to live and work in Indy without the threat of sexual violence.”
If convicted, Lewis faces one to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Clark's stalking incident comes after a Oregon man charged With disturbing the peace, electronic stalking and harassment of UConn basketball star Paige Bueckers. According to police reports, the man said on social media that he wanted to marry Bueckers and had an engagement ring and lingerie with him when he was arrested near a Connecticut airport.
