Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko has launched an empowering initiative aimed at uplifting local communities to uplift county resident livelihoods.
The event, which took place at the Migori Posta Grounds, saw the unveiling of an economic empowerment programme that will benefit over 400 groups.
The Sh40 million economic empowerment grant will be distributed across all the 40 wards in the County set to benefit women groups, youth groups, disability groups, Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), and self-help groups.
The programme is designed to provide these groups with the necessary resources and support to improve their livelihoods through sustainable economic activities.
Ochilo emphasised that this initiative reflects the county’s commitment to fostering socio-economic growth and improving the living standards of its residents.
“With this move, the county hopes to create lasting impacts by empowering individuals and enhancing community cohesion,” said Ochilo.
He said that the launch marks a significant step towards building a more self-sufficient and prosperous Migori County, driven by the strength and resilience of its people.
Migori County Chief Officer in charge of Trade Victor Oywa said that the grants will help to empower the county residents at the ward levels where the majority of the trading activities occur.
Oywa noted that they will be monitoring the uptake of the grant and corporate partners to continue to capacity-build the benefited groups to ensure grant consumption serves its purpose.
Mary Atieno from one of the benefited women groups from Suna Central Ward said that the grant will uplift the group to generate more income to steer their economic growth and capital empowerment.
