Kenya Met Lists Nairobi & Mombasa Among Regions to Receive Rainfall in Next 7 Days

The Kenya Meteorological Department listed Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Kiambu amongst the regions set to receive rainfall over the next seven days.

In its seven-day weather advisory released on January 14, Kenya Met informed that many parts of the country would experience mostly sunny and dry weather conditions with daytime temperatures of over 30°C.

Residents of Nairobi, Kisumu, Kiambu, Nyamira, Kisii, Baringo, Murang’a, Nyeri, and 24 other counties across the country were, however, asked to brace for morning rains and late afternoon showers. The rainfall was forecasted to occur during the forecast period between January 14 and January 20.

The outlook for the Highlands East of the Rift Valley of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi counties forecasts daylong sunny intervals with a few areas are likely to experience morning rains and late afternoon showers.

Kenya Met forecasted mainly sunny intervals expected to prevail during the day in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley (Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok counties).

However, a few areas are likely to receive morning rains, late afternoon showers, and thunderstorms towards the end of the forecast period.

Coastal counties like Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and areas of Tana River are expected to have daylong sunny intervals with the possibility of receiving occasional light morning showers.

Residents of North-Eastern and North Western counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, and Samburu were urged to brace for extremely high temperatures with peaks of up to 38°C. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy.

In the North Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley (Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, and West-Pokot Counties) sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

In the Southeastern lowlands of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River, Kenya Met forecasted warmer temperatures expected to prevail during the day. However, a few areas are likely to experience morning rains and late afternoon showers. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy though a few areas may experience showers.

In light of all this, Kenya Met noted that the average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley and Southeastern lowlands.

Residents of the affected counties were urged to take note of the incoming weather patterns by Kenya Met Director General Dr. David Gikungu. The seven-day advisory comes after the most recent five day forecast spanning from January 6 to January 12 released by the weatherman.
