The family of a Murang’a woman who died after sustaining serious burns in a domestic violence incident now appeals to well wishers to help them give her a decent send off.
47-year-old Grace Wanja from Mung’etho village in Maragua sustained serious burns after her boyfriend doused her with what is suspected to be petrol and set her on fire on the morning of January 8th.
Wanja, who had sustained 65 percent burns was transferred from Murang’a County Referral Hospital to Kenyatta National Hospital where she was receiving treatment until her demise on January 15.
Speaking to KNA, Isaack Mwangi, the family spokesperson appealed to well-wishers to help the family settle the hospital bill and plan a decent sendoff for their loved one.
“The family of Wanja is needy, the children she has left behind need help burying their mother.” Mwangi said.
“She had accrued a hospital bill of Sh 140,000 of which the Social Health Authority (SHA) paid Sh 35,000,” he added.
Mwangi further highlighted the plight of Wanja’s children noting that they no longer have a place to call home as their mother was being hosted by a well-wisher.
“Wanja has left behind four children, these children need help,” he said.
Mwangi noted that the family continues to seek justice for their kin and urged the police to promptly arrest the suspect.
“The suspect, Irungu Muturi, is well known and we even know where he comes from, Wanja is now dead and he is yet to be arrested,” he said.
Agnes Wangari, one of Wanja’s children also called upon well-wishers to help them out noting they do not even have a place to bury their mother.
“In addition to the hospital bill, we do not know where to bury our mother because the land we could have used has a pending court case,” she narrated.
Wangari also called upon the police to arrest the runaway suspect and ensure he is charged in court.
