The National Weather Service has issued another rare especially hazardous conditions warning in anticipation of Monday's powerful and potentially damaging Santa Ana wind event.

NWS announces on X that PDS warning For Los Angeles and Ventura counties, it will take effect at 12 a.m. Monday and will remain in place until 10 a.m. Tuesday. The NWS urged the public to prepare accordingly.

According to the NWS, the wind event is expected to develop rapidly on Monday, starting in the mountains of LA County in the afternoon and spreading into the valleys and coastal areas by the evening or Monday night.

nws Wind gusts of 60 to 80 mph are expected to impact the mountains of L.A. and eastern Ventura County Monday night and Tuesday morning, along with many valleys and coastal areas in both counties, it said. Winds may blow at speeds of 55 to 65 miles per hour.

Red flag warnings go into effect Monday

Combined with humidity dropping significantly to single digits, a Red flag warnings have been issued for much of Ventura and Los Angeles counties From late Monday morning to Tuesday evening, including Pasadena, where the alert will be in effect from 8 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday. The NWS said these conditions would create “dangerous” fire weather conditions. “Igniting new or existing fires will pose a high risk of rapid fire spread and long distances,” the NWS said.

“The most significant days will be Monday and Tuesday, and then Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we will still see strong winds, they just won't be as strong as they will be over the next 48 hours,” KCAL9 said. Meteorologist Marina Jurica.

By 10:40 a.m. Monday, Jurica said, winds gusted up to 60 mph in parts of the Santa Clarita Valley, moving toward Ventura County, western Los Angeles County, and San Gabriel and San Bernardino. The counties were moving towards the mountains.

“As we saw a couple of weeks ago, the winds create more speed as they move down slope and we have to really keep an eye on those down slope winds,” Jurica said.

Strong offshore winds and very low humidity will continue over these same areas Tuesday night into Thursday. The strongest winds during this period are expected to reach 40 to 55 mph Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Due to the possibility of continued Red Flag status, a Fire Weather Watch has also been issued for most of these areas from late Tuesday evening through Thursday evening.

Additionally, a High Wind Watch will be in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning for parts of Ventura and Los Angeles counties due to the “high risk of widespread damaging winds,” according to the NWS.

By Friday, upper lows could bring cooler temperatures as well as a chance of light rain and mountain snowfall.
