Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has made sweeping changes to her cabinet in a deliberate effort to streamline service delivery in the county.
Through a Gazette notice, the county government explained that the changes were made to enhance the county’s performance for the benefit of its residents.
Among the notable changes is the nomination of Elijah Munga as the new executive member for Youth and Sports.
His nomination has been forwarded to the Homa Bay County Assembly for vetting, and should he be approved, he will replace Sarah Malit, who has been reassigned as the executive member for Fisheries.

The new changes also see Roseline Omollo, who had been at the helm of the Health docket, swapped with Mercy Osewe at Governance and Devolution.
Meanwhile, Joash Aloo has moved from the Department of Water, Irrigation, Sanitation, Environment, Energy, and Climate Change, which he has held since 2022. He will now be in charge of the Trade docket.
”The nominations and changes are made to enhance service delivery and optimal performance in the county. The move will also help us fill the vacant positions,” Wanga said in the notice.
The reshuffle comes just two months after the county’s Trade executive, Polycarp Okombo, was elected as the Speaker of the Homa Bay County Assembly.
While announcing the reshuffle, the governor said the changes were necessary, especially following Okombo’s departure.
”We have some of the best people in the government,” the governor said. ”Once in a while, you check around and move people from one place to another.”
”This assembly took away one of my people (Okombo) to become Speaker, and I had to look for an equally diligent officer for trade.”
During the meeting, the governor challenged her new Trade CEC to revive Homa Bay’s manufacturing industries.
A day before the changes were announced, Governor Wanga chaired a County Executive Committee meeting, where concerns were raised about service delivery, particularly in the health docket.
From the meeting, the Homa Bay County government resolved to run an initiative from February 1 to enhance service delivery in the county.
