Prime Cabinet Secretary acting in the capacity of Gender CS Musalia Mudavadi has reappointed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin, Captain Kungu Muigai, to be a member of the Kenya Cultural Centre Council.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3(1) of the Kenya Cultural Centre Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage re-appoints Captain Kungu Muigai for a period of three years, with effect from January 24, 2025,” Musalia noted in the Gazette Notice dated Friday, January 24.

Muigai’s reappointment comes three weeks after High Court Judge Lawrence Muigai declared the appointment null and void.

This followed a petition filed by David Njoe Kithunka, who moved to court seeking orders to declare the appointment unlawful. He argued that the then Cabinet Secretary, Ababu Namwamba, had violated the law in appointing Muigai.
