The County Government of Bomet is committed to support efforts aimed at mitigating climate change and its effects.
This includes the County’s undertaking in ensuring the full implementation of the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme in the region.
Speaking during a workshop for officials of the Bomet County Climate Change Steering Committee, the Climate Change Unit and Monitoring and Evaluation unit, Bomet Governor Prof Hillary Barchok, said that his administration was keen on promoting climate resilience activities in the county, towards the larger goal of taming overall global climate change and its effects on the environment.
He called upon stakeholders to upscale their involvement in supporting local communities in capacity building in the adoption of climate smart practices in their day to day activities.
The governor said that on its part, the county government was ready to continue working with private players in combating the causes of climate change.
Barchok took stock of the strides the county has taken in combating the climate change effects in the county and called for more concerted efforts from various stakeholders towards climate change resilience.
He called on all the county departments to streamline their programmes and activities towards combating the climate for the sake of efficiency.
The objective of the workshop was to review the implementation progress of the Financially Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) in the county.
Key among the issues discussed include assessment of the progress and impact of ongoing FLLoCA activities, enhancing the effectiveness of monitoring and evaluation processes to track progress.
In addition, the forum was to help identify challenges, and inform future program improvements as well as strengthening Environmental and Social safeguards measures to ensure the environmental sustainability of FLLoCA activities and minimize any potential negative impacts.
