Nairobi Businessman Arrested Again Over Forgery After Losing Ksh18 Million Choppers Case

A city businessman lost Ksh18 million to the Assets Recovery Agency (ACA) after a Milimani High Court ruling on Thursday, January 23.

Justice Patrick Otieno granted the agency the authority to recover the money from two of the suspect’s private jet leasing companies as they might have been proceeds of a crime.

The firms were reportedly linked to a suspicious international money laundering syndicate.

Now, mere days after the court ruling, the serial fraudster was apprehended on Monday by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after forging documents to claim ownership of a multi-million property.

During the investigation by the Serious Crime Unit of the DCI, investigators uncovered that the suspect had used the fake documents to fraudulently obtain money from foreigners.

With the help of the DCI’s Document Examiners, they determined that Binding Resolutions documents presented by the suspect to his victims were not genuine.

In his scheme, the suspect claimed that he was the sole owner of the plaza where his firm was located.

Upon his arrest, he was arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts to face four charges including; forgery, giving false information, and uttering false documents.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was granted a bond of Ksh500,000 and a surety of the same amount or cash bail of Ksh200,000 with one personal contact by Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi.

In an eerily similar arrest, a Kenyan in a private jet scam that defrauded a Nigerian national of Ksh12 million was arrested on January 24.

In the report, the DCI revealed that the Kenyan and his fellow fraudsters presented themselves to the Nigerian as businessmen with the capability of chartering a private jet from Nigeria to Kenya.

However, upon payment of the Ksh12 million, the criminals disappeared, leaving the foreigner with no option but to contact the DCI for assistance.
