Mystery as Worker Goes Missing After Ruiru Fire, Bones Found

A mystery has gripped Ruiru in Kiambu County after it emerged that a worker at a furniture store disappeared following a fire that broke out six weeks ago. Following the fire, bones were discovered, and the furniture shop owners said the bones belonged to a dog, a fact that the family disputes.

Joseph Ng’ang’a reportedly went missing in unclear circumstances after a fire razed down a section of the multimillion-shilling shop on December 18, while working within the premises of the Modern Furniture Pacific.

The family of Ng’ang’a poked holes over the incident, believing that their kin was burnt in the inferno, adding that there was a clear cover-up at play by the management. 

At the time of the fire incident, there were no reported injuries or deaths reported, with the cause of the fire still yet to be established. However, investigators at the scene discovered bones, which were later said to belong to a dog.

However, the family, while holding demonstrations at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Kiambu Road, disputed the findings, noting discrepancies in the investigation process.

“They later stated that there was something that looked like a dog. Our question is, how did they determine that it was a dog? Which lab did they go to? And when they went to the lab, who did they take from the family to ascertain that it was a dog? They should take us to that lab,” lamented Wairimu Muhia, sister to Ng’ang’a.

For their part, Modern Furniture Pacific acknowledged the fire incident but was adamant that no life was lost in the inferno. The furniture shop added that the bones recovered were of a dog, as documented by crime-scene investigators from Ruiru Police Station. 

Ng’ang’a’s family urged the DCI officers to expedite the investigation process, demanding that the crime scene investigators come clear on what their findings from the crime scene were.

According to witnesses, the fire broke out at around 7am inside the furniture store before spreading to other sections and burning several pieces of furniture.

Following the incident, area residents initiated a rescue operation to extinguish the fire. However, the flames quickly spread to other parts of the store, making it impossible to contain the blaze.

In the videos and images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the building was engulfed in flames as area residents watched from a safe distance.

Moments later, a team of firefighters from Kiambu County arrived at the scene and put out the fire, which had already burnt down a considerable chunk of the building, including most furniture.

The furniture shop is owned by a prominent businessman who also owns several other furniture stores across the country, including one in Nakuru.

Meanwhile, the police at Ruiru police station insisted that they were still pursuing the matter as a missing person report, a direction that the family does not want the probe to ttake.
