Babu Owino Reveals Being on Interpol Most Wanted List in Tanzania & Uganda

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is a wanted man and has been included in the Interpol Most Wanted list by the Republic of Tanzania, he has alleged.

Speaking during a recent interview, the MP recounted how one of his visits to Tanzania was recently hindered by a three-hour detention at the hands of the country’s immigration officers.

According to Babu, he arrived in the country as usual, not knowing that his name was on the country’s Interpol list of most wanted men. While at the airport, a scan of his passport by the immigration officers revealed he was wanted in the country.

“The other day, I went to Tanzania, and when I arrived at the Dar es Salaam airport and provided my passport to be cleared by the immigration, I was shocked to see my name listed as one of the people on the Interpol wanted list,” Owino revealed.

“I couldn’t be allowed to get inside Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania; I was detained at the airport for three hours,” the MP continued.

The MP went further to reveal that he was also banned from entering Uganda and castigated the leaders of these countries for promoting division instead of unity among country members.

According to Babu, the Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu owes him an apology. He questioned the basis of his travel restrictions, alleging that he had no business of interests in Tanzania but praised the country for its policies.

“So unfortunate how Tanzania Government put me on the Most Wanted Interpol List. President Suluhu owes me an apology,” the MP stated.

Babu Owino has most of the time been on the notorious list of regional leaders for his controversial remarks against them.

While visiting the country for the launch of Raila Odinga’s African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson candidature in August 2024, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni accused Babu Owino of supporting his opponents.

Museveni revealed that according to intelligence reports he received, Babu was collaborating with Uganda’s anti-ruling party activists.

“I am a consumer of intelligence services, so I always see intelligence service reports. There is a character called Babu. I always see Babu dealing with anti-NRM groups. I have never accused him, but now I am accusing him,” Museveni said at the time.
