A police officer has been taken for mental examination at Bondo sub county hospital after he allegedly stabbed two patients at the facility where he had been admitted on Friday with undisclosed condition.
Mohammed Gure, an officer attached at Aram police station in Rarieda sub-county is reported to have attacked fellow patients at the ward with a knife leaving them with serious injuries.
According to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent Evans Ogoti, the officer stabbed the two patients in the general ward with a knife before he was subdued by the support staff.
Ogoti, who confirmed the Monday dawn incident, told KNA that the victims are in stable condition.
“Investigations are ongoing to establish what could have happened. Security at the facility has been heightened to ensure that the patients are safe,” said Ogoti.
He added that preliminary investigations indicate that the officer could have had an acute psychotic episode before he went on the stabbing spree.
“Our priority was to save the patients who had been attacked and thereafter reported the matter to police. We’ll get other details concerning his background,” he said.
