A family in Makuyu, Murang’a County, is in distress after the strange and mysterious disappearance of their kin.
Lucy Wamaitha, 32, has been missing for over three weeks since January 16 after a trip with her employer turned inexplicable.
Her mother, Nancy Mungai, narrated the last moments before Lucy, who works for an NGO in Murang’a, vanished without a trace.
According to Nancy, her daughter embarked on a trip to Embu with one of her superiors to run an errand. At the time, Nancy was in close contact with her daughter’s employer, who briefed her on their endeavours.

“We met and talked with her employer and he told me they went together to Embu-Chuka-Meru to run an errand,” she narrated. “When they got back, they stopped at a hotel.”
Nancy further narrated that Lucy’s phone went off at around 7 pm on January 16 – the same day she went missing. Her supervisor’s phone went off two hours later.
While details of Lucy’s whereabouts remain scanty, Nancy believes her daughter’s plight could have something to do with unscrupulous dealings from her employer which she was aware of.
She added, “Lucy told me she was not on good terms with her bosses because she was aware of money being mismanaged by her superiors. Going forward they told her she would be using the funds to run operations at the company.”
In a desperate bid to spread awareness about her missing daughter, Nancy has since reported the matter to three police stations. Lucy’s photos have also been plastered on social media for anyone with information to come forward.
Confirming the incident, Thika West Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi confirmed two people have been interrogated on the disappearance of the 32-year-old as investigations intensify.
“We have the report at our station here in Thika and investigations are already underway,” he said.
Incidentally, Lucy’s case is eerily similar to one involving one Lilian Nyambura Mbugua – a brand manager, who disappeared from her home in Gikono, Kabati, Murang’a County two days to Christmas Day.
