Chuka/Igambang’ombe Member of Parliament Patrick Munene has alleviated the burden for students enrolling into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges by covering the recruitment fees through the National Government Constituency Development Fund.

Speaking during a TVETs and KMTC recruitment event held at Chuka Picnic grounds, Munene further undertook to open a dedicated desk in his office to assist with the recruitment process, reflecting his unwavering support for education.

Present during the event was the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) CEO Dr. Mercy Wahome who emphasized the importance of joint efforts to bolster TVET programs.

Dr. Wahome expressed her gratitude towards the government for its role in facilitating these initiatives, highlighting that without the support, the progress made would be significantly lost.

The CEO noted that students were the true ambassadors of these programmes, and it is the partnership between students and management that drives a continuous improvement.

She urged the community to respect the various academic achievements of students, asserting that the government has established levels for all learners.

She particularly clarified that those who scored grade C and below in the KCSE are given more priority in TVETs compared to those who achieved B and above with the approach being aimed at providing tailor made opportunities for skill development and career progression for all students.

Dr. Wahome further announced that her team at KUCCPS is dedicated to guiding the youth through career guidance and recognition of prior knowledge for those without formal certificates but possessing relevant skills.

She promised to routinely give support at the MPs’ offices by providing direct knowledge assistance and support to the youth.

Representing the Chuka Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner was Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Wilfred Odhiambo who encouraged the community to be proactive rather than ever complaining.

He urged students to embrace TVET opportunities, emphasizing the government’s commitment to making TVET institutions nearly free for all.

The ACC assured that there are vacancies for students with all grades, from A to E, and that the government is dedicated to supporting every student’s educational journey.
