Uasin Gishu Teacher Warms Hearts After Walking for Several Kilometres to Save Collapsed Pupil

A teacher in Ngenyilel East, Uasin Gishu County, has left many impressed after carrying a Grade 4 learner who collapsed during an inter-school athletics competition for four kilometres.

What was supposed to be a regular competition took a dramatic turn when a 10-year-old boy from Ngenyilel Primary School fainted after competing in the 5,000-metre race.

Moments after completing the competition at a neighbouring school, the pupils, together with their teacher, began heading home. It was during the journey that the pupil collapsed.

The teachers, who were on high alert, quickly intervened and administered first aid to the learner before rushing him to hospital. However, the hospital was too far, forcing the teacher to alert a motorcyclist for assistance.

Unfortunately, the cyclist could not help as the remaining fuel levels could not sustain the 5-kilometre journey, forcing the teacher to carry the pupil on his back for the rest of the journey.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, one of the villagers who witnessed the occurrence revealed that the incident took place in the evening when the students were coming from the sports competition.

The pupils had gone to an athletics competition at Ngenyilel Primary School. From Ngenyilel to Murugusi is five kilometres, so while heading home in the evening after running 5,000 metres, he fainted,โ€ narrated a witness.

โ€œThe boy fainted because he was exhausted. We attempted to call a motorcyclist, but the rider declined, claiming that he didnโ€™t have enough fuel,โ€ he added.

Despite the urgency of the matter, the teacher carried the pupil for four kilometres before the school administration sent a helper to assist with the remaining one kilometre.

While such acts of kindness sometimes go unrecognised, his act of love has attracted the attention of Kenyans who have since showered him with praises for his courage, resilience and acts of kindness.

“A motorbike came when the teacher was approaching the destination and helped them cover the remaining distance, the pupil received medical attention and is now doing fine,” recalled a villager.

“That situation has made us happy as residents, the teacher carried our hearts and we want recognition for that teacher for the good care of our children.”
