golden idol case Was A rewarding series of point-and-click murder mysteries It became one of my favorite games of 2022. And while I felt there was more story to learn about the titular Golden Idol, I wasn't sure any potential sequel would be able to live up to its clever puzzles and charming, slowly unfolding story. Turns out, I had nothing to fear: rise of the golden statue, newly launched sequelEasily surpasses the original by improving on just about everything.

At its core, Rise It is a very similar game to CaseThe new game takes place in the 1970s, approximately 200 years after the events of the original, and each RiseThe cases take you to a specific moment in time, usually during or shortly after a murder. You've been tasked with solving what's going on. To find out, you first have to click around the scene to find the relevant words and names saved in the menu. You then use those words to solve the puzzles of the case, like the names of individuals at a scene, details of how a murder occurred, or even things like how to explain the dance moves or who won the game show. .

Here's an example of how you use search terms to solve elements of a case.

It is a clever system. Clicking around to collect all the words forces you to examine everything that's going on, and filling in the blanks means you have to really think about how the elements of the scene connect. Can. I'm starting to think about it in a way detailed puzzle: While the scattered elements may seem like a lot to tie together, as you slowly solve the disparate elements of the puzzle within the cases, it becomes easier to figure out how they connect.

There are even more layers, as you have to solve puzzles encompassing the events of the entire chapter, which usually consist of three or four cases, to be able to move on to the next chapter. Some recurring characters will pop up in chapters, meaning the game is able to tell an overall story by forcing you to understand their actions across a bunch of different scenes. (You don't need to play Case To understand the events of RiseHowever there is some news that fans of the first game will be familiar with.)

The system is not perfect. like with CaseIf you are off target after selecting words for a specific puzzle, Rise Will tell you if your guess is wrong or if you have two or less words in the wrong place. Usually, knowing I was close means I can double-check my assumptions and tweak a few words to get things right. but as i did CaseIf I can't figure out two or fewer wrong words myself, I'll just keep throwing in a bunch of guesses until I get things right.

Rise There are some difficult puzzles, but so far, I've been able to solve them all without any online guides, as I've had to do with some previous cases. Case, Rise It also has an improved hint system that provides up to three hints for a specific part of a case, and often, checking them would point me in the right direction when I got stuck. I would also recommend carrying a pen and paper to write things down, especially since some cases scatter details across multiple areas. And if you can play with someone else, that helps too – my wife noticed a lot of things I completely missed.

I will warn you that the game can get weird. Case Usually mistaken for being creepy with its old-school pixel art style, but Rise It looks like a painting, and that means you'll see a slightly more realistic dead body. The scenes and characters move around in little loops, which adds a lifelike feel to them, but it also means you'll see some uncomfortable actions over and over again. The first case opens with one person actively strangling someone else; Another shows a man receiving an electric shock. If you're afraid of birds, there's one thing you really won't like. But like a good horror movie, those twisted visuals are part of what makes the game compelling. Whenever I started a new case, I was always curious to see what horrors I would have to face.

my work is not finished yet Rise. After over 15 hours, I'm on the last of the game's 20 cases, and it's taking me a few days to tackle it. I think the ultimate thrill of figuring it all out will be worth the pain, however, there is nothing better than that light bulb moment of putting the last word in the right place in the puzzle. And this will happen even after I finish all 20 cases four dlc pack Let's wait until next year – perhaps there's more we don't know about the mysterious golden statue.
