Nothing will be easy. Sexipedia had faced other attempts to take down the site, including an attempt by its original owner after his departure. The fandom received several removal requests, but community members pointed the finger at a youtube video Created by Trig Jagman, a volunteer staff member of several other fandom wikis.
The video, which has been viewed nearly 3,000 times, recommended that Sexipedia should be removed for being “entirely sexual in content coverage”. The video also claimed that hundreds of other databases violated Fandom's policies. “The decision to add Sexipedia [to the list] “This was not done out of personal hatred or deliberate targeting,” says Zegman.
The reports led to an internal discussion for the fandom, which may have decided that Sexipedia was too inherently sexual to be allowed. Once the decision was made, the site was removed without any advice or warning to site staff who thought they were in compliance.
“Our wiki had no explicit content and was completely PG-13,” says Lee, who has been the owner and maintainer of Sexipedia since 2021. (Lee declined to give his last name, citing privacy concerns.) “[Fandom’s] The reason doesn't make any sense, unless they just saw the word 'sex' in the title.”
Unlike the Wikimedia Foundation, which hosts Wikipedia, Fandom is a for-profit company, Owned since 2018 By venture capitalist Jonathan Miller's Integrated Media Company. Recently, many fan wikis have decided to create new databases unaffiliated with the fandom rather than deal with changing company practices and policies. Last year, users and staff of the massive Minecraft Wiki Voted to leave the fandomSaying that the company is “prioritizing its own interests and engagement over those of the wiki communities.” (Fandom declined to comment on the record for this story.)
The Sexipedia team had no such concerns. Lee says, “We've been doing just fine for years without any problems, even with the fandom staff helping us with things.” However, on October 30, when mods asked why the wiki disappeared, Fandom responded to his support request, stating that it violated the company's terms of use and community building policies, effectively denying his appeal to reopen the site. However, as a matter of policy, Fandom allowed staff to archive the wiki's data so it could be restored elsewhere.
The day Fandom rejected his appeal, Lee officially requested the location as a new home from Mirahez, a non-profit hosting service. The community gave its full support to the decision, and for the next two weeks Discord was a hub of activity, creating the first army of skinny white people new site Approval was granted on 11 November. It's still under construction, but it looks like a unique catalog of fan love has been saved.
To inaugurate the new site, the community also held a vote on which character would receive the honor of being on the front page of the site. The Once-ler wins easily and continues a tradition those who keep it going Don't understand completely. However, now that Sexipedia is back online it will become a little easier.
