honorable mentions
There are a few mattresses we tested that don't stand out that much but are good and worth mentioning, if you're thinking about them.
Helix Sunset Elite for $2,811: Our top choice Helix also has one elite collection It includes seven mattresses with a spectrum of softness. At 16 inches high, it's the “tallest mattress on the Internet” and comes in two separate boxes, each heavy enough to meet FedEx requirements. Firmness is determined by the foam density of the top layer, which is zipped into a larger support system. This makes the mattress adjustable in case you regret your order. At the bottom there are two separate layers of microcoils. I spent a month sleeping on the softest model of the Elite line, called Sunset, and appreciated the deep cradling effect. Helix offers a 100-day trial period on all of its mattresses.
Wayfair Sleep 14-Inch Plush Cooling Gel Hybrid Mattress for $400, This plush mattress features a top layer of cooling gel that conforms to your body for comfort and classic pocket coils underneath for structure and support, with varying thicknesses of memory foam surrounding the coils for added support (The coil and memory foam mix helps even with low speed transfers). The top knitted cover and sides help with breathability and overall cooling effect. The mattress is also compatible with a adjustable bed basehave solid edge support, CertiPUR-America And Oeko-tex certified (ensuring that your mattress does not contain any harmful toxins), and it has a 10-year warranty. This bed is super comfortable if you prefer a more plush mattress.
Naturepedic EOS for $3,499: Think of it as the organic cousin of the Helix Elite above, as it's also a larger and firmer mattress that comes separately in three boxes. If you're looking for an organic hybrid mattress that allows for customization, Naturepedic's EOS is a solid (if expensive) option. I ordered it from the firm to see how I'd sleep after months of medium mattresses, and it was really sturdy, with springs that would last just three weeks of constant sleep and a lot of jumping from my 9 year old. Started softening after – old daughter. You can swap layers for free for 100 nights, which means finding just the right firmness. Note that this is a heavy mattress due to the natural latex layer, but it's strong enough that the company offers a 25-year limited warranty.
mattresses should be avoided
There are some models you should avoid. Many of these beds are extremely affordable, and if you're not picky, they may seem just fine. In other cases, the mattress is good but the price is not.
- Magniflex Magnistretch 12 Italian made and advertises itself as a spinal stretcher. It is endorsed by retired Italian soccer player Giorgio Chiellini and current pro basketball player Stefano Tonata, who plays for the Italian equivalent of the Boston Celtics. Well, the Magniflex certainly does Some? Up to the spine, although I found it very unpleasant. (It is worth noting that I forenoon No The same Martin Szymar who played a little pro soccer in Slovakia.) I could only spend two nights on the Magnistretch before crying uncle and limping to my next mattress tester. The morning after I felt as if I had slept on a swing made of chainlink fence, and my lower back felt weak and creaky – possibly it was stretched, and if so, it turns out That I don't like doing this, my back got strained.
- Sleep Number Climate360 Smart Bed ,5/10, Wired Review) can be temperature-controlled, which is amazing. The adjustable base means you can stay comfortable while watching TV, reading or sleeping. Unfortunately, the price tag carries a lot of marks, and sleep experts recommend avoiding electronic use before bed – the Sleep IQ app rejects this advice. Did we mention it costs the same as a used Buick and the weight isn't far behind?
- Amazon Basics Mattress Cheap ones are made of foam that is not dense enough, causing too much shrinkage.
- Parachute Eco Comfort Mattress Just doesn't live up to its extraordinary price. The model we tested didn't have enough padding over the coils.
