There were several great bags we tried whose features or design didn't quite make the top spots above. However, everyone has something different to offer in a toiletry bag, so while it may not be right for us, some of these options may be right for you.

State Bag Benson Toiletry Kit for $68: It's a solid, simple bag with three mesh pouches and a snap-in/snap-out plastic envelope that can hold a toothbrush and shower items like toothpaste or soap. The navy version I tested had an exterior and interior made from recycled bottles, and I liked that it had a hanging option. However, the organization was more rudimentary than similar-class bags we tested, and it was missing some thoughtful details featured on other bags in the same price range, such as a quick-access pouch on the back and a rubber front with A large hook device to prevent slipping. (This bag's thick, tiny plastic hook wasn't even wide enough to hang on the towel rack.)

July Hanging Toiletry Bag for $85: I am mine and love July's carry-on suitcaseSo I was excited to try out the brand's popular hanging toiletry bag. It's a great design with a zipped pouch on the back, as well as a body that zips flat to reveal PVC and pouch zip compartments and a large, rubber-tipped metal hook that snaps away. It looks well made and stylish with leather trim and gunmetal hardware, but my husband took it on a business trip and found that its pockets were actually quite small when I tested it in my bathroom at home. My concerns were confirmed. If the bag were smaller this wouldn't be a problem, but it took up a full quarter of the carry-on.

Fjallraven Kanken Toiletry Bag for $55, I love this thing, it makes me feel like a Red Cross nurse on a World War II battlefield. It's made from a proprietary Fjallraven fabric blend that combines organic cotton with recycled polyester, so it feels like fabric but is more waterproof and durable. It features a clamshell design with a strong internal plastic hook. My quart bag of bottles goes in the spacious bottom zip compartment, my toothbrush and deodorant go in the top compartment, and there's mesh pockets and molle webbing to keep your little things easily visible. However, its dimensions are very large, so if you're a minimalist with only a toothbrush and comb, it may not be for you. -Adrienne So

Calpack Clear Cosmetics Case for $85: Constructed from extensively water-resistant, wipe-clean PVC, this clear cosmetic case (I tested the medium size) zips around and folds flat to reveal two zippered compartments and a small zippered mesh bag. Gives. It looks like a cute purse with its 16 trendy color options, dual handles, and metal bottom studs. However, accessing the contents isn't as easy as other cosmetic cases that just open from the top — you have to lay the Calpack flat to open on both sides, which requires a 16-by-10-inch footprint, And completely clear construction is not very prudent.

Simple Dopp Kit for $75, I like this bag's durable Cordura exterior and stow-away clip for hanging, as well as the fact that it has a lifetime warranty. The bag opens clamshell-style, revealing four simple waterproof zip pockets – two thin and horizontal, one small rectangle, and one large rectangle. It's an interesting idea, but in practice, it severely limits utility as the user is limited to specific toilet-sized products that fit each pocket size. (My deodorant didn't fit, nor did the toothbrush fit in a case.)

Command the Day Dope Kit at Lululemon $48, This simple, water-repellent canvas bag has an attractive unisex design (in black only). I love that it's made of recycled polyester and its spacious bottom mesh compartment can hold full-sized products. However, the bag doesn't hang or unzip all the way to lie flat, nor does it sit on its own, so it's forced to take up a sizable (about 8.5 x 11-inch) footprint on the counter. I found myself frustrated at times trying to reach my toiletries during the testing period, especially with the lower mesh compartment. This compartment requires full opening and closing for access, and the bag's inability to lie flat causes items to frequently roll over.
