Meta's WhatsApp is Now established as one of the best apps for group chat. It works on a lot of devices (including the web), gives you more or less the same experience on Android and iOS, and it's available worldwide. Additionally, since it was launched in 2009, it has gained many useful features over the years.

If you use WhatsApp, there's a good chance you've joined a group chat or two — for old school friends, for your kid's sports team, for your extended family, for the last wedding you went to. Were – and you have more features to play with here than you can imagine.

Those features include options to organize (if you're a designated administrator) or participate in (if you're not an administrator) group chats. Once you're sure you're familiar with everything you can do with WhatsApp group chats, the app becomes more useful – and you can manage your group chat messages more efficiently.

To access the main options for a group chat, tap the group name at the top of the conversation, then select group permissions: This option is only visible if you created the group and are therefore an administrator by default, or if someone else with administrator privileges has also granted you administrator status.

Here the first option, Edit group settingsLets you choose whether non-admins can change a set of group chat settings. These include the group name, description, and photo, as well as settings like pinned messages and disappearing messages. This is a single on or off setting for all group members (you can deny these privileges to some participants while blocking them for others).

then there is send message Toggle switch: Turn this off, and only admins will be able to post anything to the group. If you have larger groups, this can really help keep the group focused on the topic at hand – you can have every single member say “Thank you” or “What time are we meeting?” No pressure will be exerted. Or anything like that.

Next is the toggle switch add other membersWhich is relatively self-explanatory. Disable this to prevent non-administrators from inviting anyone else to the group. This works in conjunction with the option below, approve new membersOnce it's turned on, any new people wishing to join a group chat (whether via invite link, QR code or some other method) will need an administrator's permission before joining.
