Isiolo Residents Protesting Poor Roads Disrupt Traffic

Business activities ground to a standstill on Monday in Isiolo after angry residents held demonstrations protesting poor road conditions in the county.

The residents expressed their frustration over the deteriorating state of roads in the region, demanding for the government to step up its efforts for seamless transport.

While taking on the streets of the North Eastern town, the furious residents, faulted the county administration for lack of critical services.

They particularly fingered their Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan over the lack of medicine in hospitals within the region.

While singing the national anthem, the irate crowd marched to the county’s main hospital demanding hospitals to be fitted with medicine and related items.

Videos circulating on social media show residents blocking the main road entering the town as they go about picketing. Some are seen with leaves shouting as they march.

These protests reflect broader concerns regarding infrastructure and healthcare access that affect the daily lives of residents.

It is not the first time the residents are protesting. Four weeks ago, residents protested against Governor Guyo’s leadership claiming they have not received development. A series of demos have rocked the quiet town of Isiolo in the recent past.

Most of the demonstrations held in Isiolo are related to local governance, resource allocation, and social justice issues.

These protests typically arise from grievances regarding government policies, land disputes, or the need for better public services, which the locals hold that they have been marginalized.

The demonstrations are often organized by local civil society groups, human rights groups and community leaders who mobilize residents around shared grievances.
