Iconic 11-Storey Kimathi House in Nairobi CBD Put Up for Auction

Nairobi’s popular Kimathi House was on Monday, December 9, put up for auction following an ongoing auction on the company that owns the building.

Kimathi House was put on auction in a notice carried in local dailies on Monday by the Direct ”O” Auctioneers. 

”LR NO. 209/9326 (1. R 34924] – along Kenyatta Avenue/ Kimathi Street within Nairobi CBD registered in the name of (company name withheld) (under Administration),” read part of the auction notice.

Key businesses that are housed under the building are set to be affected by the auction should the new owner choose to redesign the business prospects after getting ownership.

For interested bidders, the plot that houses the building is located within the Central Business District(CBD) of Nairobi City and has an 11-storey commercial structure.

Additionally, the property can be accessed from the fronting roads of Kenyatta Avenue and Kimathi Street while within the CBD.

”The plot is developed with an eleven (11) – storey commercial building with parking bays to the basement floor. The property is within Zone 1A of the Nairobi City Development Ordinances zones,” the notice added.

The property is also held on a leasehold basis and has a connection to the mains electricity and other key amenities.

”The Leasehold property measures approximately 0.092 of a hectare or 0.2273 of an acre. It lies at GPS coordinates [-1.283961, 36.823267),” the notice stated.

”The property is also served by two lifts, a power backup generator, CCTV cameras, firefighting hose reels, and mobile extinguishers,” it added.

Kimathi House has been in the news headlines, on April 1, 2020, part of the building caught fire at night leaving many business occupants stranded over what to do.

This was particularly because the management was blamed for not offering any communication to the occupants on the circumstances surrounding the mysterious tragedy.
