Every person is different, and devising the right diffuser routine may require some trial and error. Maybe you want to blow dry your hair completely, or maybe you want to take it 80 percent of the way. Maybe you need a leave-in, curl gel, and hair oil, or maybe you just need a little heat protectant. These are some products we like to use during our hairstyling routine that may come in handy for you.

Turby Twist Microfiber Towel ($17), I love pull out my hair Spread it after bathing and letting the water soak for a few minutes. These microfiber towels are designed to last, and they soak up a lot of moisture without drying out my hair too much. Other people swear by wearing a T-shirt, but this is what works best for me.—laurin stramp

Pattern Leave-In Conditioner ($28) And Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Cream & Gel ($17) After plopping I apply a dollop of leave-in conditioner to my hair, followed by a palmful of curl cream and finally a generous amount of gel. This is what keeps my natural curl clumps looking their best after diffusion. This may be too heavy for some curl textures, but it is my favorite method. ,laurin stramp

Kristin Ess Style Assist Blow-Dry Mist ($15): This is one of the most effective heat protectants I've tried that really cuts down on drying time – halfway through blow-drying, I can actually tell where I sprayed it and where I didn't. I wish it were as easy to apply as the Milkshake Foam Primer below, but the bottle still has a decent targeted spray and the product is lightweight enough that it doesn't leave a residue. ,cat merch

Milkshake Lifestyling Blow-Dry Primer ($26): This lightly scented heat protectant is meant to prevent color fading and reduce drying time. It doesn't work as effectively as the Kristin ES above, but it'll set right on in a few minutes and gets high marks for coming out of the bottle as an easy-to-apply foam, so it's definitely worth a try. Simple, you are getting the same coverage. ,cat merch

Davines It's a Curl Gel Oil ($32), This gentle curl gel oil has been fantastic for my fine hair, it helps shape my curls and keep them moisturized without weighing them down or making my hair dry. It starts out feeling like a gel in your hand, then turns into an oil on your hair. It's best to use it with a diffuser, although I've occasionally used it on windy dry days with equally good results. ,nena pharrell
