Residents of Nyandarua County caused a commotion as President William Ruto’s speech was about to be read during the 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations.
The incident unfolded at Engineer Stadium after Nyandarua County Commissioner Mohamed Barre took to the stage to read Ruto’s Jamhuri speech.
The crowd, which was calm, suddenly turned wild and started protesting raising their voices with others standing up and throwing their hands in the air.
Efforts by the county commissioner to read the speech were unsuccessful as the booing grew louder from the irate crowd.

Members of the audience approached the podium where the speaker was, shouting effectively drowning Barre’s voice.
The National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) had to spring into action to protect the county commissioner from the hostile audience as he struggled to read the President’s address.
Disgruntled by the county commissioner’s persistence to read Ruto’s speech, the attendees staged a walkout from the venue en masse chanting anti-government slogans while some milled around.
The ensuing commotion led the commissioner to cut short the speech midway. It’s not the first time a government official has been met by a hostile audience when Ruto’s speech was being read.
On Sunday, October 20, residents of Juja heckled as President Ruto’s Mashujaa Day speech was being delivered by the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) of the sub-county.
Following the same script as residents of Nyandarua, the audience both young and old, jeered blocking the Head of State’s speech from being delivered.
Their noises built up into chants of “Ruto Must Go” which were sung in union blocking the Deputy County Commissioner who was trying to subdue the growing noise with the use of a public address system.
The latest senior government official to be heckled is Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen who was blocked from speaking at the Korom Festival in Eldoret on December 7.
Revellers jeered at the CS barely allowing him to address the party that had been organized to celebrate music and arts. Murkome’s speech lasted barely a minute. Humiliated, Murkomen had to leave the stage to avoid further beratement of the crowd that continued protesting.
