IG Kanja, MP Kuria Kimani Among Kenyans Awarded at State House

President William Ruto has awarded various Kenyans including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja with presidential recognitions for their outstanding roles and duties to the country as Kenya marks 61 years of self-rule.

During an award ceremony at State House in Nairobi on Sunday, the Head of State bestowed several state awards on trailblazers and different experts from various fields as a result of their contributions.

The recipients were drawn from several fields including security, medical, and creative among other sectors.

Notable among those awarded are Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Molo Member of Parliament Kuria Kimani, and actress Sarah Hassan.

IG Kanja was feted with a Moran Elder of Golden Heart (MGH) for spearheading and commanding various security operations since joining the police service.

Among the operations he was honoured for include leading the Kenyan Police Command during the Dusit D2 attack in Westlands, Nairobi, and Linda Boni Multiagency operation. 

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu was also awarded by Ruto for her steadfast commitment to the rule of law and the administration of justice to the vulnerable. She was awarded the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH).

Kuria was awarded the Chief of Order of the Burning (CBS) for his outstanding contribution as a Member of Parliament and as chair of the National Assembly’s departmental committee on Finance and National Planning. 

Additionally, Kuria was recognised for championing youth leadership by helping found the Africa Young Parliamentarian Association Network.

The Head of State also awarded Purity Muthoni Ngina, the youngest PhD holder in Mathematics and the youngest Chief Executive Officer of a Constitutional body in Kenya, with a Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).

Bob Monroe, the founder of the Mathare Youth Football Association(MYSA) and the Mathare Football Club, was awarded Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear(EBS).

The two sports outfits were founded in 1987 and have since grown to produce many top players and coaches for the national team.

Ruto awarded the late Makadara Law Court Magistrate Monica Njeri who lost her life in the line of duty after she was shot by a police officer at her work station.

Njeri was honoured for her role in promoting the resolution of cases on gender-based violence and other notable works she dispensed within the justice system.

Sarah Hassan, an actress, producer, and television host was awarded the  Order of the Grand Warrior(OGW) for her excellent contribution to the growth of global contribution of Kenya’s film and entertainment industry.
