Governor asks the political class to establish IEBC in the country – Kenya News Agency

Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has asked the political class in the country to establish an Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to manage the 2027 elections.

Consequently, Mutula called upon the ruling party and the opposition to put their heads together in a bi-partisan way and put up a body that will manage elections in the country.

He disclosed that if the current situation prevails, it was going to create doubt and confusion among the electorate besides putting the country at an impending disaster.

“The minute we bring doubt into the election body, we give these people anxiety and confusion. It is my plea to establish IEBC to avoid clashes that occurred in 2007,” Mutula warned during Jamhuri Day celebrations held at Unoa Sports Ground on Thursday.

“So, I am telling the political class it’s time to bring your heads together in a bi-partisan way and give us an IEBC that will conduct elections in 2027,” he added.

He observed that the political class should avoid rhetoric and ensure a body to manage our elections in the manner provided by the constitution.

Mutula noted that the IEBC that will be established will operate in a free, transparent and secure manner that will help the electorate elect leaders they want to manage the affairs of the country.

“I hope the political class can avoid political rhetoric and give this country an election body that will manage our elections in a manner as stipulated in the constitution. This will help the electorate to elect the leaders they want in a free, transparent and secure way,” posed the Governor.
