The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has invited applications from teachers to fill 19,000 senior administrative vacancies and announced 8,707 vacancies to replace teachers who have left the service.
In an advertisement in the government publication MyGov, TSC stated that the positions available include chief principals, senior principals, principals, deputy principals, senior lecturers, senior masters, a secondary teacher I, senior headteachers (special schools), headteachers, deputy headteachers, and senior teacher positions.
“The Teachers Service Commission is declaring 8,707 vacancies to replace teachers who exited service through natural attrition, i.e., 5,862 posts for primary schools, 21 posts for junior schools, and 2,824 posts for secondary schools,” reads part of the notice.
According to TSC, these teachers will serve on permanent and pensionable terms of service.

For Chief Principal roles, TSC has 44 positions available. Applicants for this role must have held the rank of Senior Principal at T-scale 14 for at least three years, received a satisfactory rating in performance appraisals and performance contracts, and demonstrated strong leadership abilities, including supervising, mentoring, and professionally supporting other teachers. Additional criteria may also apply as determined by the commission.
Three positions for Chief Principal (Teacher Training College) at T-scale 15 have also been advertised. Eligibility criteria mirror those of other Chief Principal roles, requiring applicants to have served as Senior Principals for at least three years and to have a proven track record in leadership and mentorship.
In regular secondary schools, TSC is seeking to fill 126 positions for Senior Principals. Interested candidates must have served as Principals or Deputy Principals I at T-scale 13 for a minimum of three years.
Additionally, 652 posts are open for Principal T-scale 13. Applicants for these positions must have been Deputy Principals II or Senior Masters I at T-scale 12 for no less than six months. Teachers who previously applied for principal positions under earlier advertisements are encouraged to submit applications for these roles as well.
At the Teacher Training College level, three vacancies for Deputy Principal (T-scale 13) are available. Candidates must have served as Deputy Principal II, Senior Master I, or Senior Lecturer I at T-scale 12 for a minimum of six months.
Moreover, 786 positions for Deputy Principal II (post-primary) at T-scale 12 are up for application. Applicants must meet specific experience requirements, including serving as Deputy Principal III or Senior Master II at T-scale 11 for at least six months.
The TSC has emphasised that teachers currently acting in principal roles should apply for these positions to formalise their appointments.
For Deputy Head Teacher II roles in regular primary schools, 3,653 posts are open. Teachers interested in these positions must have served as Senior Teacher I at T-scale 8 for a minimum of six months. The commission has also called on applicants from its previous advertisements under reference number 4/2024 to apply again.
At the post-primary level, 1,408 Deputy Principal III positions (T-scale 11) are available. Additional openings include 13 posts for Senior Lecturer I, where candidates must have served as Senior Lecturer II for a minimum of six months. Other advertised positions include Senior Lecturer TTC (32 posts), Senior Master III (1,987 posts), Senior Lecturer III TTC (61 posts), and Secondary Teacher I (184 posts).
