Pilen was riding a new horse with members of his family, his office said.
The 68-year-old Republican was taken first to Columbus Community Hospital and then, “out of an abundance of caution,” to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, his office said.
Pilen's office did not say what injuries he suffered or how serious they were, but said he was expected to remain in the hospital for several days.
“The governor remains alert and is in constant touch with his team,” his office said.
