The Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) has issued safety guidelines to Kenyans travelling to the coast for the holidays.
In a post on X on December 23, the Coast Guard urged vacationers to prioritise their safety while enjoying the waters.
To achieve this, they have been advised to wear life jackets when participating in all water activities.
They also informed tourists of their presence at the beaches for safety patrols and urged them to report any suspicious activities they observed.

Thirdly, the revellers are required to monitor weather updates and avoid overloaded boats although the Coast Guard will be available to assist in case of emergencies.
The final directive issued by the KCGS was to adhere to the strict safety measures put in place to protect them.
“Always inform someone of your plans and stay within designated areas, especially along public beaches. Enjoy the waters safely!” the statement concluded.
This directive comes at a time when many Kenyans are expected to be travelling for the holidays, with some taking their vacation at the coast.
The government has been pulling out all the stops through the relevant authorities to ensure that Kenyans enjoy their break.
Earlier in the day, the Interior Ministry issued an alert on black spots across the country and urged those travelling to remain vigilant.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has also been conducting nationwide road safety education and compliance checks.
Despite this, the country is already in mourning as a multi-vehicle accident along the Narok-Mai Mahiu highway killed eight people early on Monday.
