A 26-year-old man from Washington state who was reported missing while on a hike in Oregon the most treacherous mountain Officials said it has been found safe in the US.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said rescuers located Brandon Davis, who became separated from his friend, by his voice in “very foggy” weather Thursday afternoon after climbing Mount Hood from Timberline Lodge.
The sheriff's office said rescuers navigated difficult terrain and rescued Davis around 2:45 p.m. Pacific time, about 24 hours after he was reported missing.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Davis seemed to be in good condition despite spending the night on the mountain, and he was able to climb back up Mount Hood with rescuers.
Mount Hood, located about 70 miles east of Portland, is Oregon's highest peak at an elevation of approximately 11,240 feet. US Forest ServiceIt attracts more than 10,000 climbers each year, but it is a highly technical climb, requiring some planning and expertise.
The Forest Service warns that the mountain is “notorious” for its rapidly changing weather. Other climbers he has died During such situations.
Beginning in 2024, Mount Hood climbers are required to obtain a climbing permit to travel above the 9,500-foot mark.
