Riverhead, NY , Accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heurman He is due back in court on Long Island Tuesday morning, and prosecutors are promising a major development in the case.
The hearing is scheduled to begin just after 9:30 a.m., with a press conference at the Suffolk County DA's office expected to take place shortly thereafter. We'll bring that news conference to you CBS News New York live,
The judge had earlier indicated that he wanted to set a trial date at today's hearing.
Heuerman's last court appearance was in October.
Heuerman has been accused of killing 6 women so far
61-year-old Heuermann has Pleaded not guilty to murder charge in deaths of six women Between 1993 and 2011. The remains of 11 people were found around Gilgo Beach during that period, and investigators believe Heuerman may be connected to other murders. The Suffolk County DA has said charges are possible in the future.
The bodies of four of the victims were dumped near Gilgo Beach. Two others were murdered in 2003 and 1993. Each of them was involved in sexual acts.
Prosecutors allege Heuerman is linked to the murders through DNA, burner phone data, descriptions of his truck, Internet searches and what they call a blueprint for getting away with murder.
