Washington – President Biden is set to deliver remarks on climate protection in Manaus, Brazil during a visit to Brazil on Sunday Amazon rainforest This is the first such visit by a sitting US President in history.
Mr Biden has addressed climate change a major part of their policy agendaApproving legislation that reduces emissions, while also setting the country on a path to a green energy transition. President's visit is scheduled for Sunday highlight his commitment Tackling global deforestation and preserving forests is what the White House calls Mr Biden's “landmark climate legacy”.
The president is set to announce during his visit that the US has reached its goal of increasing its climate finance to more than $11 billion a year, up from $1.5 billion when Mr Biden took office . He will also designate November 17 as International Conservation Day, while the administration announces new conservation efforts, including a $50 million Amazon fund, among other initiatives.
Before heading to Rio de Janeiro for the G20 summit with world leaders, Mr Biden is set to meet local and indigenous leaders, take an aerial tour of the Amazon rainforest and visit a local museum. The visit comes after the President recently attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru, where he met his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
The historic visit comes as climate advocates warn about the environmental consequences of the president-elect Donald Trump's plan to withdraw The Biden administration's efforts to combat climate change.
