Bull-fighting competition will be held every four months in Kakamega County to boost tourism in the region.

Area Governor Fernandes Barasa said the County Government is dedicated to promoting the area’s leisure industry as part of his wealth creation pillar in his manifesto.

He said bullfighting (Mayo) is a vibrant and rapidly growing heritage that offers an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators in the region.

The Governor spoke on Tuesday after participating in and awarding the owners of the competing bulls during the end-of-year multi-session bullfighting extravaganza held at Malinya grounds in Ikolomani Sub-County.

“Our government is dedicated to promoting unique tourism attractions like bullfighting (Mayo) as part of our wealth creation pillar,” he Said.

Barasa said the County Government plans to construct and equip bullfighting stadiums in Shinyalu, Butsoso, Malava, and Khayega to boost the sport in the area.

“Moving forward bullfighting events will be held every four months with the next one set for April next year in Khayega,” he said.

The event was attended by area MCA Archadeous Liyayi, bullfighting President Ben Mululu among other leaders.
