Council of Governors (CoG) in partnership with the Kwale County Government undertook a series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in Kinango Sub County.
The CoG held a free medical camp for over 500 residents in Kinango School for the deaf, distributed water tanks to several schools to address the challenges of water scarcity, shoes, bags, wheelchairs and stationeries to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
CoG Secretariat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mary Mwiti said the free medical camp was held to enhance healthcare access for vulnerable groups in Kwale.
Ms Mwiti said the services offered included general health check-ups, specialist consultations, cervical cancer screenings, eye and dental care, basic medications, physiotherapy, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a common sexually transmitted infection, health awareness sessions and Social Health Authority (SHA) registration.
CEO Mwiti emphasised the role of education in empowering children and called for collective efforts to bridge access gaps especially in arid and semi-arid regions.
The heads of the schools that benefited from the water storage tanks acknowledged the CoG’s act of kindness and assured to undertake good maintenance and security of the tanks.
The school authorities pledged to ensure the tanks would be well taken care of to benefit future student generations.
The CEO said the CSR activities are part of the Secretariat’s annual tradition to give back to society as part of thanksgiving for a wonderful year.
Mwiti described the donation of water storage tanks as a game changer as schools stayed for weeks without water flowing through their taps.
She said the CoG usually undertakes a series of CSR activities designed to positively impact society and the environment, often focusing on areas like environmental sustainability, social welfare, and ethical practices.
Area Governor Fatuma Achani thanked the CoG for holding their CSR activities in Kinango noting that the initiative is a reflection of the cordial relationship between the coastal county and the CoG Secretariat.
Achani thanked the CoG for finding time to come to Kinango and deliver free healthcare services to the poor and underserved people in remote areas facilitated by expert medical personnel.
The coastal county boss expressed her commitment and desire to expand and enhance relations between Kwale county government and the CoG.
