The National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in Narok North Sub County has earmarked Sh32 million to construct a mega bridge to connect Naisoya and Ololoito villages.

Speaking while commissioning the bridge project today, Narok North MP Ms. Agnes Pareyio said she had prioritised the project after a public outcry and the fact that the two villages are rich agricultural zones.

Ms. Pareyio underscored the challenges the residents have been facing to connect to the two villages, especially during rainy seasons, saying the construction of the bridge will be a big relief to the residents.

“The residents of the two villages have been finding it hard to move from one village to another. With the new bridge in place, they will be able to transport their produce to the market and boost their livelihoods,” Ms. Pareyio said.

The bridge will be constructed under the supervision of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) and is expected to be completed in a six-month period.

The NG-CDF in the constituency is also constructing three bridges in different locations to ease the movement of people and goods.

Other bridges already constructed through CDF funds include the Erusiae-Olekaiki bridge, the Murua-Ereset bridge, and the Entiat-Songoro bridge. The three bridges connect wheat, potato and maize farmers to the market.

At the same time, the MP revealed that 2, 400 secondary school students had benefitted from the Sh22 million bursary issued to the needy and vulnerable students.

“We have already issued the cheques to the beneficiaries. We will also be distributing bursaries to university and college students very soon,” she said.

The MP observed that her constituency was the largest among the six constituencies in Narok County; hence, she was facing a huge challenge in connecting all the six wards in her constituency.

“One of the challenges I am facing is that my constituency is expansive. Some constituencies are the size of a ward, yet we are given the same allocation,” said Ms. Pareyio.

Apart from the Woman representative seat, Ms. Pareyio is the first Maa woman in Narok County to be elected to a political seat. She pledged to develop her constituency so that the constituents will appreciate her leadership and elect more women in future elections.
