As Kenyans continue to voice their concerns over the increasing wave of abductions, some detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) found themselves in a tight spot in Kirinyaga County.
The officers who had reportedly gone on operational duty to apprehend a suspect in Kiamanyeki, Mwea faced a mob baying for their blood.
According to the locals, the detectives failed to identify themselves, and thus to them, they turned out as potential abductors. The crowd then made attempts to lynch the officers.
The incident soon after turned dramatic when the residents surrounded the operational vehicle the officers were using, a Subaru Imprezza.

Additionally, the residents attempted to set the vehicle ablaze as they raised fear over the spreading wave of abductions which they believe police officers are actively behind despite denials.
However, the officers managed to escape unhurt after dispersing the rowdy crowd. This is after they managed to diffuse the crowd.
It also took the effort of local police officers who had been called in to try to calm the situation as tensions continued to grow.
Kenyans.co.ke reached out to National Police Service spokesperson Resilla Onyango, who promised to address the matter.
However, by the time of publishing, she was yet to release a statement
Cases of public abductions have been on the rise in recent months, with the latest incident being of a man who was grabbed from the streets on Friday in broad daylight in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.
According to police, the man who was seen being forcefully thrown into the car along Magadi Road near the Barclays area of Rongai is said to have been caught attempting to rob an MPESA shop.
A section of members of the public however seemed to dismiss the new plot as a cover-up on the abductions despite the presence of a CCTV footage that had been circulated online.
