Education CS Julius Ogamba Dismisses Claims of Resigning From Govt

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has dismissed allegations that he has resigned from his current government position.

Addressing the matter on Monday, January 13, Ogamba flagged a viral social media post claiming that he had resigned due to the government’s failure to address the surging cases of abductions.

The flagged post suggested that the Education CS had submitted his resignation letter to President William Ruto because the current regime’s leadership style did not align with his principles.

According to the fake post, despite Ogamba’s efforts to ensure access to education for all Kenyans, President Ruto’s administration had purportedly failed to uphold citizens’ basic rights and dignity.

The post further depicted the CS criticising the government over abductions, disappearances, and killings, claiming that such actions had left countless families in anguish and fear.

“With a heavy heart, but with a clear conscience, I stand before you today to announce my resignation as the Cabinet Secretary for Education. This decision has not come lightly, but I must take it to remain true to my values, principles, and unwavering commitment to the people of Kenya,” read part of the flagged post.

“As a leader, I have a responsibility to stand for what is right and to advocate for the values that underpin our Constitution—justice, equality, and the protection of human rights. When the government I serve fails to uphold these values, I must take a stand.”

While distancing himself from the fake social media post, the Education CS termed the allegations false and misleading. He urged Kenyans to be cautious of fake X accounts purporting to represent him. “Beware of a fake X account purporting to be the Cabinet Secretary for Education,” Ogamba wrote.

Ogamba’s clarification followed hours after the Head of Government Delivery Services Peter Mbae tendered his resignation citing unresolved issues raised to the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.

In a letter dated January 9 and addressed to Koskei, Mbae disclosed that the unresolved issues affected the functionality of his office.

“Despite my passion, focus and consistency, for reasons and issues that I have consistently brought to your attention and have not been resolved to date, it has not been possible to carry out my duties as intended and my position as Head of Government Delivery Services is no longer tenable,” the letter read in part.

“To be accountable to the people of Kenya, because the appointment was widely circulated, I therefore request to formally disengage from this appointment to pursue other interests,” Mbae added.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mbae said he would pursue other interests from now on. “I was professional in my own right before joining government so I will go back to what I was doing,” Mbae noted.
