Eric Latiff Quits Spice FM After 5 Years

Spice FM’s The Situation Room host Eric Latiff announced his departure from Standard Group with a heartfelt farewell message on Monday, January 6.

Latiff penned a heartfelt message reminiscing about his early beginnings at the station with fellow co-hosts when it launched on August 20, 2019. He shared the platform with CT Muga, Ndu Okoh, and Njeri Thorne.

“On this 6th day of January 2025, my heart is heavy as I bid kwaheri (goodbye) to the brilliant team of colleagues at Spice FM and the Standard Group,” he announced.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to once again be a part of Kenya’s oldest private media house and I am proud of the teams that I leave behind in radio, TV, and print.”

In the statement, Latif also revealed initial jitters about what the audience’s reception to the unconventional radio show that airs weekdays from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM would be.

He recalled being instrumental to the launch of the station and his being the first show to ever air on the station.

“At exactly 6:00 AM on August 20, 2019, four people entered a brand new studio and started a journey along an uncharted path,” Latif wrote.

“When I switched on the four microphones that morning I was excited at launching yet another station, but I also had butterflies in my stomach; would this work? Would the audience embrace four hours of non-stop talk during their busy morning commute?”

Alongside CT Muga, Ndu Okoh, and Njeri Thorne, however, Latif noted that they were able to fully fulfill their mandate with the support of producer Brian Evusa, Programme Controller Brian, and Radio General Manager Tom Japanni.

“It has been a great journey building The Situation Room to what it has become and we have very many people to thank, not least the team of producers, marketing, commercial, technical and other colleagues,” he added.

“The Situation Room has become the home of Kenya’s Biggest Conversations and it continues to host many thought leaders, community influencers, different professionals and duty bearers.”

Besides being instrumental in the launch of Spice FM, the seasoned broadcast journalist also revealed he had been part of several other media house launches including that of Kenya’s first vernacular radio station, Kameme FM, and the first 24-hour news and information TV station, K24.

His other first was the launch of Kenya’s first 24-hour religious media house which consists of Family TV and Family Radio.

As for what the future holds for Latiff, the journalist, who also anchored news on KTN, relayed that he is open to any options that will come his way.

“Is there room for something new? Of course, always, and I sure hope to be a part of it soon. Wish me luck, I will keep you posted,” he concluded.
