Complaints about unwanted telemarketing calls have declined for the third year in a row Federal Trade Commission announced Tomorrow. According to the FTC, reports of such calls have declined by more than 50 percent compared to 2021 — a decline that may be thanks to efforts taken by the government to fight harassing telemarketing and phone scams.
The FTC writes that there were approximately 33,000 fewer unwanted call complaints during the 2024 fiscal year than the previous year. The decline affected all types of unwanted calls, although the agency writes that reports about debt reduction calls “increased by more than 85 percent compared to last year.”
Sam Levin, director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection, said that although illegal calls are still “a crisis,” he praised the FTC's efforts to “pursue upstream players and prepare the agency to confront emerging threats” to account for the decline in complaints. Credited to “Strategy”.
