Gachagua Claims Ruto is Using Illicit Alcohol to Reduce Mt Kenya Votes

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again hit out at President William Ruto, this time accusing him of facilitating alcoholism in the Mount Kenya region.

Speaking during a church service in Naivasha, Gachagua claimed that, despite having won the fight against alcohol and drug abuse in the region during his tenure as Deputy President, the President had undone his efforts.

“The Interior Security PS was instructed by the President to reopen all those alcohol factories, and they were urged to sell the alcohol exclusively in Mount Kenya. It is not sold in Rift Valley or anywhere else. Yesterday, three people died in Bahati,” he claimed.

“Since they forced me out of office, the President has ordered all the illicit alcohol that kills people to be brought here to destroy our young people.”

Gachagua also recalled warning the President against reopening the companies when he was in office, but his pleas went unheard.

He suggested that this move was a calculated effort by the President to reduce the voter population in the Mountain region.

“Police and chiefs have been instructed to allow people to continue drinking the deadly alcohol, so the number of registered voters decreases,” he claimed.

“It is immoral; it is unacceptable to target a community for destruction and extinction through the sale of poison to them. It is entirely possible to end the war on alcoholism because I had already achieved it.”

In his fiery speech, the former Deputy President urged the President to visit the Mountain instead of waiting for tempers to calm, and to address the questions they had.

Among the questions he wanted the President to answer was why he considered Kenyans ‘stupid’ for refusing to vaccinate their livestock.

He also pointed out the criticism of the clergy by the President and reminded him that they had held his hand and prayed for him during the campaigns.

“Come and tell these people why you are sending poisonous alcohol to Mount Kenya to kill their children yet they loved you and voted for you,” he added.

“The questions you have to answer are more than 100 but prepare to answer at least those five or six. Come and don’t be afraid of anger because the people are getting angrier because you have now started insulting people.”
