Gachagua Reveals Complications That Deterred Him From Unveiling Party on January 31, Issues Way Forward

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed plans to make a grand announcement in the coming week after failing to deliver his promise of announcing his next political move.

On January 19, Gachagua told congregants at the PCEA Emmanuel Matanya, Waguthiru Parishin Laikipia East Constituency, Laikipia County, that he would reveal his plans at the end of January.

Kenyans were, however, left to guess what was up Gachagua’s sleeve when January 31 lapsed without any word from the former DP, who was impeached in October 2024.

Gachagua, while attending a church service at Almighty God Ministries Church in Mathioya, Murang’a County, on Sunday, February 2, issued an apology for failing to keep his promise, explaining why his grand announcement was delayed.

The former DP stated that the original plan was to gather input from various groups and political factions before submitting a detailed report on January 31. However, due to the large number of communities offering their views, Gachagua decided to delay his report.

“I had promised that by January 31, I would have garnered opinions and issued a political way forward. I want to apologise for the delays,” he said.

“I thought opinions would only come from the people of the mountain, other communities came forward and we could not lock them out.”

The former DP then promised to issue the anticipated report on Sunday, February 9, which he claims will be broadcast on popular radio stations.

He added, “On February 9, I will release an interim report on all radio stations to explain what everyone has told me and what they want done.”

Gachagua’s latest comments came after a string of meetings at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri which has been tipped as his new centre of power and political strategy.

The former Mathira MP claims to have hosted contingents from the Maasai community, as well as stakeholders from Western, Nyanza, and Kisii ahead of the detailed report he intends to release on February 9.

Meanwhile, President Ruto’s allies have thrown a spanner in the works after suggesting  Gachagua could be reinstated into the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) just before the 2027 elections.

Speaking during a church service at Kapsang’ AIC Church in Uasin Gishu County on Sunday attended by UDA party insiders, including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa stated that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua could be allowed back into the party when the time is right.
