Gachagua Reveals Plot to Oust CJ Martha Koome Out of Office

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday made another scathing claim against the Kenya Kwanza Government revolving around the embattled Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Gachagua, while addressing congregants at Meru PCEA Church, claimed there was an elaborate plan to oust Koome from office ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to Gachagua, President William Ruto was also keen on disbanding the Supreme Court ahead of the next poll. The former DP went on to suggest that a budget had already been set aside for the scheme.

“There is a bigger scheme to dismantle the Supreme Court ahead of the 2027 elections,” Gachagua said. “A budget has been set aside through the National Intelligence Service.”

Gachagua’s sentiments came just days after it emerged that Koome’s security detail had been withdrawn and then reinstated –  a trend that has become all too familiar among senior judges in recent years.

While alluding to Koome’s recent woes, the former DP claimed it was a calculated ploy from the State to frustrate the Chief Justice into resignation.

He added, “All those petitions you see in the Supreme Court are the makings of the government because they would like to put a Supreme Court bench that is amicable to what those in power want.”

In the wake of CJ Koome’s security detail withdrawal, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen accused the Lady Justice of going too public with the issue, insisting the withdrawal was a routine process within the National Police Service (NPS).

Another controversy that has struck the Supreme Court in recent weeks is a petition by former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi who wants Koome and other Supreme Court judges removed over alleged gross misconduct.

But Gachagua, whose political strategy revolves around making friends with leaders hard done by the government, urged Koome to stay put as he called on the international community to intervene.

The former Deputy President seems to have strengthened his political alliances, as was clear on Saturday, January 25, when he revealed his new direction by announcing his collaboration with NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua.

The two leaders, who were once foes and criticised each other regularly due to their different political ideologies brought about by their disparate political affiliations, met at Karua’s home in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County for what seems like reconciliation.
